Stem Cell Laboratory
The Stem Cell Laboratory is a domain of the Transfusion Medicine department. It is a full capacity, accredited laboratory that provides hematopoietic progenitor cells for the management of patients undergoing allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplants. The laboratory is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and is licensed by Health Canada.
This laboratory is located at the Juravinski Hospital. This laboratory has a team of specially trained Transfusion Medicine technologists and a Technical Specialist.
In addition, the stem cell laboratory handles hematopoietic progenitor cell products for over 100 transplants per year, 70 percent of which are cryopreserved. The Stem Cell laboratory is actively involved in research and specialized technologies such as CD34+ selection.
